About the opportunity
The Head of Underwriting Technical Services is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the implementation of underwriting strategies and ensuring adherence to technical standards within the organisation. This role will ensure underwriting policies, guidelines, and risk assessment frameworks are robust, compliant, and aligned with business objectives. The position will work closely with key stakeholders to drive underwriting excellence, innovation, and risk management best practices.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement underwriting strategies, policies, and frameworks.
- Actively help steer the underwriting portfolio to optimise returns for all stake holders and align with the company’s strategic goals and risk appetite.
- Provide technical underwriting expertise, leadership and training across all commercial product lines, ensuring consistency in risk assessment and pricing.
- Oversee the development and continuous improvement of underwriting guidelines and best practices.
- Engage with external stakeholders, including brokers, and regulators, to strengthen business relationships.
- Make strategic recommendations and identify innovative opportunities and risks.
- Lead and manage projects to develop and implement new or revised products, underwriting policies and procedures.
About you
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and minimum of 8-10 years of experience in underwriting, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial or leadership role.
- Strong technical underwriting expertise with a deep understanding of risk assessment, pricing, and policy wordings.
- Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements related to underwriting and insurance.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to balance risk and business objectives.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence at senior levels.
- Experience in handling complex underwriting cases and providing expert support to underwriters.
- Experience in managing relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and a proven track record of successfully implementing strategies and risk appetite changes.
- Experience in leading and managing operational transformation initiatives.
- Experience in developing new products to innovate and create cost-effective proposals.
