Steadfast Group is the largest general insurance broker network and the largest underwriting agency group in Australasia with growing operations internationally. We were founded on the belief that a network of brokers would be stronger together, and this idea has been the backbone of our culture ever since. We believe that none of us is as good as all of us.

At Steadfast, we take pride in the diverse mix of individuals and skill sets within our organisation. Our team members collaborate across various business units to not only bolster our broker network but also to pioneer the innovative thinking, systems, and technologies that will propel the insurance sector into the future.

We are leaders of the general insurance broking and underwriting industry, and we lead from the front.

About the opportunity

This Manager, Risk and Compliance role in the Risk and Compliance function is focussed on driving the uplift of our risk management framework. While Steadfast has risk practices in place, this role is required to enhance our maturity, as appropriate for an organisation of Steadfast’s size and risk profile.

The Manager, Risk and Compliance is a Line 2 role within the Risk and Compliance team which is part of the wider Chief Operating Office. The role is to enable delivery of and support for the operation of the three lines of accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the enhancement and embedment of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework, ensuring consistent and effective implementation across the business.
  • Support Line 1 teams in identifying, documenting, and managing strategic and emerging risks, providing practical advice and constructive challenge as part of the Line 2 function.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of risk management policies, procedures, and tools, including risk appetite statements, scorecards, and BCP testing.
  • Proactively analyse and evaluate risks, assist with incident and issue management, and support remediation activities and business continuity planning.
  • Maintain and update compliance obligations registers, ensuring adherence to regulatory and legislative requirements, including the Corporations Act and AFSL obligations.
  • Assist in the development and execution of compliance audits, investigations, and reporting, ensuring timely resolution of breaches and effective monitoring of remediation actions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to uplift compliance maturity, deliver training programs, and reinforce a strong risk and compliance culture across the organisation.
  • Prepare and support key reporting deliverables, including quarterly risk profiles, compliance reports, and updates on risk maturity and policy implementation.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong experience in risk management and compliance within financial services—ideally in general insurance, broking, banking, or advisory roles in accounting or law firms.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (e.g., Commerce, Business, Law, CPA, CA) combined with 5+ years of experience in financial services.
  • Familiarity with risk management systems, policies, incident and issue management, control development/testing, and compliance obligations.
  • Knowledge of AFSL requirements, privacy compliance, and regulatory frameworks; experience with compliance audits and breach management is highly desirable.
  • Hands-on experience with risk management technologies or systems and prior involvement in project delivery or regulatory remediation programs.
  • Strong strategic thinking, commercial judgment, and collaborative skills, with the ability to drive change and uplift risk and compliance maturity.
